9 Ideas You Can Use To Spice Up Your Events

One of the things I really value in working with businesses for their events, conferences and expos is feedback. This is one of the best things I have found to learn more about you as a client, as a business and what will help to make your events the best they can be, and most importantly, how I could contribute to your event success. It was also feedback that prompted this blog post. So to the great person who asked me the question, what can we do to spice up our event even more? Let me say, thank you.

So let’s kick this off. This list is made up of nine of my favourite things I have either been able to capture or help support the setup of in photographing business events, expos and conferences over the years.

1. Media Wall Magic: The Ultimate Visual Experience

If you want your event to stand out, consider investing in a Media Wall. This technology-driven concept combines art, entertainment, and interactivity to create a stunning visual centerpiece. A Media Wall is essentially a large, high-resolution LED display that can showcase a wide range of content, including images, videos, live social media feeds, and more. It's perfect for enhancing the ambiance and engaging your audience.

With a Media Wall, you can:

- Showcase Your Brand: Display your logo, event hashtag, or promotional content in a dynamic and attention-grabbing way.

- Highlight Moments: Share photos and videos from the event as they happen, creating an instant connection with your guests.

- Interactive Fun: Encourage attendees to interact with the Media Wall by posting their photos, comments, or messages in real-time. You’d be amazed at how many selfies people take with it!

- Themed Decor: Customise the Media Wall to match the theme and mood of your event, making it an integral part of your decor.

- The Red Carpet: If you really want to make people feel special, add a red carpet in front of your media wall and your guests will feel like VIP’s!

A Media Wall is not only visually stunning but also offers endless possibilities for engagement and entertainment. As an event photographer, I can attest to the magic it can add to your event. Trust me; your guests will be talking about it long after the event is over.

2. Photo Booth Extravaganza

Photo booths are always a hit at events. Take it a step further by offering themed props and backdrops that align with your event's theme. You can even set up a digital photo booth with filters and effects, allowing guests to create fun, shareable memories.

3. Live Entertainment

Bring in live performers, musicians, or artists to entertain your guests. Live entertainment adds an element of surprise and excitement to any event. This also applies to your event MC. A great MC will rev up the audience, keep them engaged and provide a bit of entertainment themselves.

If you’re looking for a great MC, check out Luke Hannan on his website. I got to see him in action at an awards gala dinner and he was excellent. I actually asked him the question, what is the value of a great MC at an event? And he kindly shared the following answer…

“From my perspective, the value of a Professional MC can be broken down into three key areas; Before, During & After your event.

Before the event: A significant proportion of the magic happens before we take the stage, partnering with event teams during the planning stages. In my case, my best clients see me as their “end-to-end event partner” and I love attending ideation sessions to share my experience and expertise with the team. Great MC's will be meticulously prepared and as every event is individual. For every single event, I write bespoke speaker welcomes and session introductions which form my detailed MC run sheet

During the Event: On event day our job is to be the glue binding the event together. We add value to your audience by diving deeper during Panels, Firesides and Q&A to ask the most insightful and thought provoking questions. And as things go wrong at events, it's the MC who'll pull the pieces back together.

After the event: The de-brief is so vital - yet so often overlooked. Professional MC's have the experience to step back and unpack the great, good & opportunities to make the event even better.”

4. Foodie Adventures

Curate a culinary experience with food and drink tastings, chef demonstrations, or a gourmet food truck lineup. Food is a universal love language!

5. Interactive Workshops

Host interactive workshops or activities that allow guests to learn something new or hone a skill. From mixology classes to DIY craft stations, there's something for everyone. Teambuilding events are also great ways to build engagement and teamwork. If you’re on the Tweed or Gold Coast, check out my good friend Tim Jack-Adams from Teambuilding Guru & GreenX7.

6. Games Galore

Set up game stations or a gaming lounge with classic board games, giant Jenga, or even virtual reality experiences for the tech-savvy crowd.

7. Themed Decor and Dress Code

Choose a unique theme for your event, and encourage guests to dress accordingly. The decor, combined with everyone's costumes, will create a fantastic atmosphere.

8. Celebrity Guests or Speakers

Invite a well-known figure from your industry to speak or make a special appearance. This can add a touch of glamour and draw more attendees.

9. Fireworks or Light Shows

If your event takes place outdoors, consider a stunning fireworks display or a mesmerising light show to end the night on a high note.

Incorporating just one or a few of these ideas can transform your event into an unforgettable experience. However, the Media Wall takes the cake as it seamlessly integrates with many of these concepts, offering endless opportunities for creativity and engagement.

As an event photographer, I'm passionate about capturing the Emotion, Energy & Engagement of your events, and I can assure you that combining these ideas will create an event that your guests will be talking about for years to come.
